Introduction to qualitative research designs and data collection methods (focus: interview)
The workshop will be held in German
After a brief methodological introduction to qualitative research and its quality criteria, this workshop will present and discuss the basics of qualitative data collection. Different selection procedures and sampling strategies will be discussed, including the theoretical sampling of grounded theory or the principle of maximum variation, before looking more closely at interviews as a data collection method.
On the one hand, different types of interviews will be discussed, such as the expert interview, the narrative-biographical interview, the focused guided interview and group discussions. It also gives practical tips on how to prepare for interviews (e.g. creating guidelines) and how to follow up (e.g. transcription rules, interview protocol). It also discusses the interactional dynamics that can arise in the field and describes how these can be used productively in the research process.
Feedback participants:
“I particularly liked the opportunity to share experiences with colleagues and the practical examples from the speakers' own research.”
“The speakers' personal experiences were presented very well and convincingly.”
“Even without prior knowledge, I was able to take part in the workshop and learn a lot.”
“The many discussions, inputs from practice and the different perspectives were great.”
“The workshop provided a good overview.”
